This pithy quote from Fitzgerald holds some great insight for disruptive thinkers.
Fitzgerald doesn't mean that there are no second chances in American lives. He meant there literally wasn't any second act between the first (first) and the third (end) of our lives. We never had a chance to rest or enjoy because we were always in motion.

Ransombots are everywhere now. Last month 900,000 Android users were attacked by an aggressive bot using the "ScareMe" framework.

Last night I watched "Transcendence." It's a movie about an AI (artificial intelligence) that becomes a threat to humanity. The movie is a redux of the classic rogue AI we saw in "Colossus: The Forbin Project" (worth watching on DVD).
Unfortunately, it's not as good a movie, despite the addition of some ideas from Vinge's Singularity and a much bigger budget.
In the last quarter of 2011, more iphones were sold than babies were born.
That's interesting because that is also the quarter that Siri shipped.
FYI: Apple's Siri is the first mass market bot.
In hindsight, this apparently minor observation may be considered something more important: a tombstone milestone for humanity.
It's the quarter when our future replacements on this planet began to outpace us.
