Tucked away back in the business pages of The Australian this morning was an interesting reference to the interest of ordinary people in politics.
Audience Development Australia recruited demographically- selected people between 40 and 64 who watched news live at 6pm at least three days a week, switching between Seven and Nine. The groups watched both news bulletins and then discussed each story individually. Reactions to each story, which included a shooting, train crash and cold-case murder, were mixed. But on one story, viewers were unanimous: no one was interested in the latest report on tensions between Malcolm Turnbull and Tony Abbott.
Someone should tell the people at Shy News about it. But then ... anyone who watches that could hardly be called normal.
