I was more than a little annoyed the other day when, because Julia Gillard cried during the bill reading, the minor, procedural bill to change the Medicare levy by half a percent was suddenly changed into a big thing, and a photo of the Liberals not being there was circulated to show they didn’t really support it. This was picked up and retweeted, reposted and even discussed by the likes of Paul Murray on 2UE.
A university study on the political inclinations of Australian journos has caused quite a stir, especially its findings on the ABC's editorial staff.
Business groups oppose increased company taxes. Disabled citizens support the national disability scheme. Big miners oppose increased mining taxes. Unemployed demand an increase in work start benefits. Universities oppose cuts in university funding.Labor savages Coalition policies. Coalition targets Labor policies. Families oppose reduced childcare benefits.

I don’t think that the importance of being a member of the mainstream media can be overstated, it is a huge responsibility.
I should point out from the start that there are many in the mainstream press that I greatly admire, too many to name here but many of them would know who they are.
Since the topic of these media-circus posts is just a discussion-starter, don't let it constrain your media analysis. Any sociopolitical issue currently making the news is on topic, as is highlighting egregious churnalism and those far too rare...
