German election discussion thread

Germany goes to the polls tomorrow, with all the polling evidence suggesting that the only point at issue is exactly what form Angela Merkel’s new government will take. Her Christian Democratic Union/Christian Social Union has persistently maintained a huge lead over the Social Democratic Party since a brief honeymoon for the latter’s leader, Martin Schulz, fizzled out earlier this year.

YouGov-Fifty Acres: Labor 35, Coalition 34, Greens 11, One Nation 9

September 20, 2017 - 05:12 -- Admin

The latest fortnightly YouGov poll for FiftyAcres is more conventional than its previous efforts in that the major parties’ share of the primary vote has increased, with Labor gaining three points to 35% without biting into the Coalition’s 34%. Of the others, the Greens are down a point to 11%, One Nation is steady on 9%, the Nick Xenophon Team is down one to 3%, “Christian parties” are steady on 3%, Katter’s Australian Party is steady on 1%, and others are down two to 3%.

BludgerTrack: 53.7-46.3 to Labor

September 16, 2017 - 05:17 -- Admin

Two new polls this week, from Ipsos and Essential Research, have wrought next to no change in voting intention, outside of an improvement for the Greens. However, their state breakdowns have caused Labor to make a net gain of two, having picked up two in Queensland and Victoria, while dropping one in New South Wales.

September 9, 2017 - 05:19 -- Admin

New poll this week from Newspoll (better for the Coalition), Essential Research (worse) and YouGov (about the same) add up to no change at all on the BludgerTrack poll aggregate, except that the Coalition is up a seat in Victoria and down one in Western Australia. The leadership ratings from Newspoll cause Malcolm Turnbull to gain a little ground on preferred prime minister, but lose it on net approval. Full details at the bottom.

YouGov-Forty Acres: Coalition 34, Labor 32, Greens 12, One Nation 9

September 6, 2017 - 02:08 -- Admin

The latest fortnightly YouGov poll has Labor down a point on the primary vote to 32%, the Coalition steady on 34%, the Greens up two to 12% and One Nation down one to 9%, with the combined result for all others steady on an ample 13%. The respondent-allocated two-party result shifts a point in Labor’s favour to reach 50-50, with the Greens both increasing their primary vote and recorded a somewhat stronger flow of preferences to Labor.

Newspoll: 53-47 to Labor in Queensland

September 6, 2017 - 00:42 -- Admin

The Australian reports a quarterly Newspoll result of state voting intention in Queensland, the first published since the second quarter of 2016, and the first to feature One Nation as a response option. One Nation emerges with 15%, which comes at the expense of the Liberal National Party, down six to 34%, and “others”, down eight to 6%, partly because it no longer includes One Nation.
