Greg Combet, a former minister in the Rudd-Gillard governments, has been appointed Chairman of the Future Fund. Greg Combet, new Chairman of the Future Fund The Treasurer, Jim Chalmers, made the announcement at a press conference today. Combet replaces Peter Costello, the Future Fund’s founder and current Chairman. Combet was the Labor member for the NSW electorate of Charlton from 2007 until 2013. Amongst other portfolios, he was Minister for Climate Change and Energy Efficiency between 2010 and 2013. The Future Fund was established in 2006 by the Howard government, when Peter Costello was Treasurer. It is an independent sovereign wealth fund that makes provision for the superannuation liabilities for politicians and public servants. In December 2023, the fund had $272.3 billion in assets.
