I don't know what I was thinking. I should know better. But I made the mistake of checking the news this morning. It's been a couple of months since I've done that. I guess I was thinking that at some point I’d have to go back to writing columns about stuff happening in the world rather than stuff happening inside my head. But honestly, the stuff inside my head is nicer to think about than the stuff happening out in the world.
I've just looked up, and it's lunchtime, and I feel like shit because I spent the day doomscrolling. And honestly, what has come of it other than this terrible nausea of the soul? Nothing. Like absolutely nothing changed. Nothing changed for the better and my reading the news didn't make anything worse. Other than my disposition.
So I guess I will redouble my guard against this mistake in future. I will len into my efforts not to read the news and everything will be fine. Yes. Yes, that sounds right. I'm sure everything will be fine.
