Man, what a week! Monday was a public holiday. Tuesday, I caught up with old mates. On Thursday, I had to take the car to the shop again and get myself into the city for a skin check. (One minor BCC to come in December.)
Long story short, not a lot was written this week. But I did go back and do proper edits on some earlier chapters of 3.3, which will save me some time in about a month or so. In fact, it convinced me I should block out a couple of hours a week to edit as I go rather than letting it build into a 20-hour job after I finish the first draft.
I used my new e-ink tablet to do the edits by hand. I’ve been trying to do a few things the old-fashioned way, including my Friday columns, writing and editing as much as I can by hand. Of course, it’s an e-ink tablet, so it's not entirely old-fashioned.
Why not use my perfectly good iPad Pro?
Shrugs.
Because it’s not as good at PDF markup or handwritten notes as the tablet.
I’ll write more extensively about what I’ve been doing and why at some point, but I’ve had iPads since the second generation. While they’re great for reading and watching screen content, and do I love mine, they’re only just okay for work. When I’m traveling or taking a break from the word cave, I like being able to type into a page in portait orientation. I enjoy how it feels like you’re building the page line by line.
But, still… they’re only just okay for work. And this thing…
… while being terrible at everything but handwriting and editing… is pretty much a perfect device for those two tasks.
