We’re now less than two months out from the Queensland state election, and the ACT election. So it seemed about the right time to unlock those election guides for everyone to read.
But while that means two less exclusive benefits for Patreon donors, I’m launching something else that I think Patreon members will appreciate.
Discord is a chat app which is used by the communities of quite a few podcasts, amongst other uses. I’ve now launched a Discord for the Tally Room, as an exclusive benefit for people who donate $5 or more per month.
The Discord server has already launched with over 30 members, and if you’re a member you can sign up too. There are channels to discuss elections in each Australian jurisdiction and overseas.
If you’re not already signed up on Patreon, you can sign up for $5 or more per month and quickly link your account with Discord and get into the server.
Now this means I am going to be scaling back a bit on the use of open threads on the Tally Room website. We’ve evolved into having the main pages of election guides as places to just discuss an election for months on end in one main thread. But this has been hard for me to keep on top of, and I don’t think it’s the best way to have these conversations.
I’m not going to close all comments threads – I think individual electorate guide comment threads are unique and insightful, and when I have blog posts on a specific topic I appreciate the responses, but broad open comment threads don’t work for me anymore. So over the next few days I’ll be closing those open threads.
It seems the easiest way to do this is to create a Discord account, then in Patreon go to Settings, then Connected Apps, and connect Discord to Patreon.
If you’re a member, please go sign up and check it out!
