The 13th Century called and would like to know why nobody is freaking out enough about North Korean troops fighting in Europe.
That was the last time an army from Asia set foot in Europe. Pretty much the only time, actually, unless you want to count the Moors in Spain, and that’s not really the same thing.
Plenty of examples of conquering and colonising going back in the other direction, of course. So turn around could arguably be fair play.
But I can’t help feeling that this thing will get out of hand, and we’ll all be sitting around in the ruins scratching our arses and going, “Huh, didn’t see that one coming.”
Why not? It’s a world-historical WTF moment. And a fitting coincidence that Russia, the first European power defeated in an armed conflict with an Asian state (Japan in 1904-05) should be the gigantic loser with its paw prints all this one, too.
